Accelerated Math Program
The Accelerated Math Program is designed to have 7th grade students take their 7th and 8th grade math classes combined into one year. This process prepares students to take Algebra I in 8th grade. The Jefferson School District Accelerated Math Program is available to qualifying 7th and 8th grade students. The course is taught at Corral Hollow Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School to all students who qualify in the district.
To qualify for the program, 6th grade students must meet the criteria established:
- Math grade of A- or higher, on all trimester report cards
- Score in the top 10% of the accelerated math qualification exam
- Score at a level 4 on the most recent available Math Summative State Assessment
- Students who are in the program must maintain a C or higher on all trimester report cards, otherwise they will be required to retest for qualification to remain in the program.
Eligible 6th grade students can register to take the Accelerated Math Program qualification assessment, which will be administered in May of each year. If students meet the criteria listed above, notification will be sent to families.The goal of the qualification process is to ensure that students are placed in the most appropriate math course for their learning needs. The Accelerated Math Program courses are designed to be extremely rigorous and fast-paced. It will require a major commitment on the part of the student and their family.
